I was selected to be in Open Style Lab: Team Xian as a Designer in 2016. My main role is in User Experience Research, Visual Design, and Prototyping.
I worked with fashion designers, engineers, and therapists to help them test textiles and fabric, make patterns, sew from small-scaled prototypes to the
actual sized garment, and discuss problems and solutions with our main therapist, Shraddha, in order to make a better user experience for our client, Xian.

About Xian
Our client, Xian Horn, suffers from Cerebral Palsy (CP). CP has affected Xian in terms of difference in body structure,
limited walking ability, as well as a lack of hand dexterity. See more details in the case study (Case study written by Elizabeth.).

Camera Journal
We met up on September 13th to start a Camera Journal at Le Pain, her favorite place where she goes frequently, to define Xian's pain points. At this stage,
we had some initial ideas and came to the conclusion that Xian's three main pain points are: Button Dexterity, Donning/Doffing, and Storage Organization.

Moodboard
After a deep interview with our client, Xian, we identified the style she likes, defined her needs and pain points, and then moved on mind mapping.
We made a moodboard to have a more clear understanding of our goal for Xian.

Process of collecting information of styling to moodboard and mind mapping.
Prototype 1
A small size of the model which we can easily test on several coat styles. After testing on several styles, we picked one to made our coat as an actual size.
We also did some research on different closures and made a competitor analysis at this time to suit Xian's pain points.

Small scales of the coat style.
User testing on our first prototype with Xian. We also checked out her favorite styles and details in the coat design.

Pain points and design opportunities.
Prototype 2
We have the actual body size from our client, Xian. This prototype was created in the real size.
Also, in this coat design, we included details such as hoodie, collar, and the style of neck area.

On November 11th, we tested on our second prototype with Xian. We also have got some swatches from
B&J Fabrics and Mood Fabrics and discussed with Xian, in order to make our final garment with the actual fabric.

Process of Discussion with Therapists and Engineers
Discussing problems and solutions with therapists and engineers to clarify our goal and also be more specific, in order to move to our final iteration.

Process of discussion.
3 descriptive adjectives to clarify our principles and design details.

Tables of our challenges and solutions.
Prototype 3
We tried on several textiles, for example, swatches of waterproof and resistant fabrics.
And also, we made the arm part with the elastic fabric (POLARTEC fabric) which gives flexibility and comfort to our client, Xian.
